The effect of different diets on some Growth factors and Survival of Swordtail (Xiphophorus hellerii) larvae

In this study, different percentages of Artemia and commercial food were studied in the reproductive efficiency of Swordtail (Xiphophorus hellerii). Experiment in a completely randomized design with experimental diets including: control group (100% commercial biomar food), first Treatment (mixture of 25% artemia and 75% biomar), second treatment (50% mixture of artemia and biomar), third treatment (mixture 75 Artemia and 25% biomar) and the fourth treatment (100% Artemia) were performed for 75 days and the initial mean weight and length of fish were 0.72 ± 0.05 g and 4.18 03 0.03 cm, respectively. The highest Growth factor was related to each control and the lowest belonged to the fourth treatment. Also, the lowest Feed conversion ratio was related to the control treatment and the highest was related to the fourth treatment. The Condition factor in the present study had a significant difference between different treatments and the highest value was obtained in the treatment fed from the control diet. There was a significant difference in the number and weight of larvae between the treatments (P <0.05) and the highest number and weight of larvae were recorded for the second treatment. There was no significant difference in Survival index between treatments (P> 0.05). Therefore, the use of commercial feed is recommended due to the more optimal Growth and Survival indices of larvae.
