Sex reversal is one of the most important biotechnology methods that have recently been used in aquaculture industry, so as masculinized females are used for production of all female population especially in salmonid fish. Thus, effects of single immersion of 17-α methytestosterone and tamoxifen were surveyed in this study. Rainbow trout larvae in triplicates were exposed to: 1. Ethanol (control), 2. 0.5 mg l- methyltestosterone (MT 0.5), 3. 2 mg l- methyltestosterone (MT 2) and 4. 2 mg l- tamoxifen (TAM 2). Results indicated that the growth performance of MT 2 group were significantly higher than of Tam 2 and control groups at the end of the experimental period. The males of MT 2 showed the highest total length, and the body weight in the males of this group were significantly more than in other groups, it is true for females of same group (MT 2) too. A single 2h immersion of 0.5 mg l- and 2 mg l- methyltestosterone has made 36.7% and 43.3% masculinisation, respectively. Whereas, gonad differentiation of the larvae was not influenced by 2 mg l- tamoxifen, as gonadal characteristics of this group were similar to the control group. In conclusion, two hours immersion of 2 mg/l methyl testosterone is efficient for masculinization of rainbow trout.
